P Spier Sep 10, 2009 7:29 AM (in response to Buzz81)Are you saying you took a screen capture of a web page and turned it into a 600 ppi image? Did you resample or change the dimensions? What size are you using it in ID?
Screen captures are by their very nature low resolution and pixelated. Upsampling in Photoshop won't change that. Scaling down will help a bit, but is not going to be a cure-all. Adjusting the dispaly performace, as Bob suggested, will show you the best posible preview, but will have no effect on print quality.

Buzz81 Sep 10, 2009 8:01 AM (in response to P Spier)I set the dimensions at 600 when I create the file, and then copy the print-screen into it. I think you're right - the image would probably look the same at 72 or 600 given the source. I'm not sure if there's a better way to copy a quality print screen.

P Spier Sep 10, 2009 8:31 AM (in response to Buzz81)When you capture the screen, you are capturing a set number of pixels. The resolution you choose to save them from Photoshop is irrelvant to what you've captured -- it only affects the size on the page when placing into an application like InDesign, not the number or quality of the pixels themselves.
Think of changing resolution as blowing up or letting air out of a balloon with the image printed on it. As the balloon expands, The image becomes physically larger, but no new information is added (the resolution is reduced) and eventually you can see the individual spots of color that make up the image (the pixels). As it shrinks, the phyical size decreases (resolution is increased) andthe individual spots become too small to distinguish so you see continuously blending color.

Mark Hebert Sep 10, 2009 10:41 AM (in response to Buzz81)Buzz,
You can try a higher resolution screen. I have an older Dell 20" here at work and it is 100ppi screen. It makes great screen shots, and I do use a lot of them and they print out very well. One wouldn't think 28 extra pixels would make a difference but it does. So even a 96ppi screen monitor will make a difference.
