Edit Workspace ->Transitions causes instant exit

    nealeh Level 5

Title pretty much sums it up.

If I select the Transitions view in the Edit Workspace the program instantly shuts down and returns to the windows desktop. I've tried both repair installation and removal/reinstall but the problem persists. I'm up to date with all Vista 32bit updates, Quicktime is ver 7.6.2, Audio (Creative Xfi) and Graphics drivers (nVidia 8800GT).I'm running a Quad Core system with 4G so I'm confident that the machine exceeds all the product requirements.

Most frustrating is that, because of the instant exit, I'm getting no pointers as to what might be triggering it.

I'm at a bit of a loss really as not being able to apply transitions pretty much makes the product unacceptable.

I'd appreciate any advice to diagnose/resolve this problem.

      Thank You,

It could be a minor corruption. Try launching the program while holding down your keyboard's left Ctrl+Alt+Shift buttons.

If that doesn't work, try going to Documents, open the Adobe folder and delete the Premiere Elements sub-folder. Then restart the program.

The problem could also be unique to this particular project. Can you duplicate this in another or a new project?

Thanks Steve for those very prompt suggestions, but neither worked.

It is a global problem. The exit happens with all projects, even a newly created one.

Also by checking the 'Problem Reports and Solutions' in Control Panel I have seen the error described thus:

            Problem signature
            Problem Event Name:    PCA2
Problem Signature 01:    Adobe Premiere Elements.exe

Files that help describe the problem
            appcompat.txt
            TabA96C.tmp

I've attached the two files to this message. The second shows that I'm runningPrEl as administrator (to remove any liklihood of permissions being the problem). The first is beyond my comprehension.

            Cheers,

Update: Using msconfig to suppress various services and startup item I can successfully select transitions with all startup items disabled. It's now trial and error to find the conflicting program.

I'll post the result back here in case anyone else experiences the same problem.

              Cheers

Ignore my last post - the problem is NOT resolved. Even with all startup items disabled PrEl does still exit to the desktop nearly all the time. I've had just two successes out of many many attempts.

                As before, any suggestions welcome.

                Cheers,

                  Finally cracked the problem.

It was the latest nVidia graphic drivers (v190.62). I've reverted to v185.85 and all seems fine.

                  Cheers,

Glad you found a solution, nealeh -- though it's pretty frustrating when the latest update BREAKS instead of fixes something!

Though it would not affect your particular situation, this ARTICLE will give you some tips on setting up your system fo rNLE work.

                      Good luck,
