    zipped un zipped

    Level 7
      Hello,
Just wondering did any one know, when I zip an image pass it on and it is
unzipped else where, is there a loss of quality in that image due to it
      having been zipped.

      regards

      k

I haven't seen that. The zip algorithm should cause minimal loss of
          information.

Another thing- if the image is already in a compressed format like JPEG,
zipping it will not reduce the file size very much if any. About the only
need for zipping is if you want to move a folder and keep it's structure
intact. And make one email attachment instead of many.

Definitely not. The zip algorithm is non-lossy.

It causes absolutely _no_ loss of information, not even a single bit. A
lossy compression algorithm would be pretty useless for general purpose.

Correct. It might even increase the filesize because of the additional
                file headers.
