I am trying to export .mov files from MiniDV videos I made in PP2 (720x480). They look at the right format in the program, but when I export them without altering their format/size, they wind up looking stretched horizontally when played back in Quicktime player... Why is that? I also tried making them 640x480 and it does the same thing.
I also tried converting them to .avi instead, and they are again stretched when viewed in Media Player Classic...
I thought it was all maybe a player issue, but I uploaded one on vimeo to see if it would be ok there, and the same thing happens.
Thanks for your help.
Double check your PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) in your export settings
I'm pretty sure (but not 100%) that 4:3 video uses a .9 par
How do they look in other players? Often these players do not automatically recognize PAR settings and you may have to adjust them manually for correct display.
It was indeed a PAR issue and I worked it out!
In fact I had to change the PAR settings from its default .9, to square pixels 1.0. Then to remove the black side bars, reformat the video to 640x480. Now all is good.
