1. Re: How do I get a TOC from one doc transitioned to another?
Art_Campbell Sep 14, 2009 9:20 AM (in response to zeppm)It sounds as if you copied the old TOC to your new book, but didn't do anything to point it to the new book.
- Delete the old, existing TOC from your book file. NOT from disk.
- Save the Book file.
- While in the book file, do Add > TOC. Specify what tags you want to include, then update the book to generate the TOC. Make sure it includes the correct tags, but don't worry about the formatting at this point. Save the book file.
- Save the new TOC, then close it.
- In Windows, make a very careful note of the file name of the new TOC. Delete it or rename it to something without an .fm extension.
- Rename the old, correctly formatted TOC to the new TOC's file name.
- From the book file, double-click the TOC to make sure you can open it and the rename was correct.
- Update the book again. Save the book and the TOC.

2. Re: How do I get a TOC from one doc transitioned to another?
Niels Grundtvig Nielsen Sep 14, 2009 11:40 PM (in response to Art_Campbell)Art, I read the original post a tad differently; as though the querent was trying to use an existing ToC as the model for a new ToC. If this is the case, I'd go for the following:
- delete any not-as-wanted ToC in the new book
- create a new ToC in the new book, accepting the default settings
- import Reference pages, layout and styles from existing ToC to new ToC
- regenerate new ToC
What do you reckon?
