    Retro TV switch-off transition

    Kurt_777 Level 1

I'm trying to find a transition or an effect that creates the effect of a very old black-and-white CRT television set shutting down. In case some of you guys are too young to remember it, what happens is the image shrinks vertically to a horizontal white line middle of screen, then shrinks horizontally to a small white dot, which then fades out.

      Can anybody help me there?

      Kurt.

          Kurt,

I know all too well what you are speaking of. Heck, I recall the days prior to TV, but not by THAT much.

I'm thinking about this, and do not recall seeing such in a pre-made form.

OTOH, I think that one could easily do this with Effects>Scale and end up with that tiny white dot. One might have to do a Transition from the shrinking image to a white dot, and then use Effect>Opacity on that white dot. Obviously, if the footage is not in B/W, the Effect>Black and White (do not recall the group), would need to be used.

          Good luck,

Ah, yes, the days of the Wireless and the Pictures, (what we called radio and movies in Australia).

There are a lot of things that fascinated me about a television screen, and I'll never forget the first one Dad bought. It was sheer magic. Great shows. But today it's....er...well, the less said the better...

I'll try your method, Hunt. See how I go.

I would have thought this was an effect that could be very successfully handled by a particle generator program. I have Particle Illusion, but even those clever chaps haven't created one for it. Probably because there's not much demand for it...! Or more likely they've never ever seen it, and thus have no idea how to mimic it. Oh well, that's progress.

            Cheers,

            Kurt.

              Kurt,

Like you, I would assume that there is something out there. I did a quick search, but probably used the wrong search terms, as I did not hit on any plug-ins, presets, or tutorials. Gotta' be a ton of examples out there.

I also think that I would add Effect>Noise and Keyframe it up, as the images shrinks down.

If you find just the right settings, please think about doing a tutorial on your creation, and maybe post it to Tips & Tricks, or to Muvipix.

When I get back from an upcoming trip, I'll play around with it too, just to see what I can come up with.

              Good luck,

I'll have a go, Hunt. I suspect it might involve using a couple of different applications, to get it just right. Maybe a little animation, as well.

If I do manage to fluke it, I'll certainly be happy to post a tutorial.

                Cheers,

                Kurt.

Good luck. Do take good notes, and I'll do similar, when I get back. I'll happily share anything that I find along the way.
