1. Re: Opinion on blank DVD Media Name Brands
John T Smith Sep 15, 2009 6:03 PM (in response to jdmoor)Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden are most often recommended in this forum
Also burn at the slowest possible speed to give the burning laser time to work
I only do hobbyist work, but I always tell Encore to create an ISO and then I use the free http://www.imgburn.com/ for the actual burning

Bill Hunt Sep 16, 2009 2:42 PM (in response to John T Smith)I second John's recs. I'm now into almost 2000 DVD's (both DVD-5's and 9's), and have never had one return with Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden. Now, I do burn at the slowest speed, and test the "master" disc in many machines. To date, I have never had any of these fail in any of my machines.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS- sorry that I did not see your initial post in the DVD Lounge.

JSS1138 Sep 20, 2009 10:04 AM (in response to jdmoor)I also have had very good results with Verbatim and TY disks. But I do get slightly better burns using Falcon Pro media. In fact, my Falcon disks have fewer errors than the Hollywood pressed DVDs I own. I now use Falcon exclusively.
The other issue is the burner itself. Using the same project, computer, blank media and burn speed, the burner itself can make a difference in the final quality. I currently use an Optiarc 7200S, which combined with the Falcon Pro media produces the best quality burns I've ever had. I believe the current model number is up to 7240 if your burner does in fact need upgrading.
