The overriding factor is that PR is a 32 bit application.
I kinda knew that when I checked where the PPro is being placed in Program files. Why do all people advise us to buy 8 or 16gb of ram, when there is no need for them? So what is the next step - Adobe will launch 64bit PPro, like they did with Photoshop? One other thing, pls - does this limited memory resource create problems when preview is being displayed on external, Full HD monitor?

Why do people install more than 4 GB memory?
Because they use dynamic linking to switch from PR to AE or EN and each application can use it's own 4 GB memory space, while AME also can use it's own space. That is where the performance difference is.
Hopefully the next version, CS5 will be 64 bits.
Memory has no impact on external monitor quality.
Hope this answers your questions.
Please check the Control Panel/System and see if all your memory is really available.
tnx for your input. System recognizes all 8gb of ram
