    Uninstall/Installation Problems on WinXP

    ieatpaste
I have AIR 1.0 installed, cannot install/upgrade to AIR 1.1. I'm running WinXP.

Here is the install/unistall log (gives me the same output either way):

      Performing runtime install
      UI SWF load is complete
      UI initialized
      starting user confirmation
      Installation type: new
      starting install
      Scheduling runtime installation operations
      Installed Product GUID: is same:false
      Beginning runtime installation
      Beginning install
      Installing c:\docume~1\brian\locals~1\temp\air43.tmp\setup.msi
Error occurred; beginning rollback: [ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Unhandled exception Error: Uninstall scheduled for a product which is not installed" errorID=0]
      Rolling back install of c:\docume~1\brian\locals~1\temp\air43.tmp\setup.msi
      Rollback due to error complete
error during install: [ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Unhandled exception Error: Uninstall scheduled for a product which is not installed" errorID=0]
runtime install entering error state: [ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Unhandled exception Error: Uninstall scheduled for a product which is not installed" errorID=0]
      begin quitting
      error in stateQuitting: [ErrorEvent type="error" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Unhandled exception TypeError: Error #1009" errorID=1009]

      I have tried:

Uninstall using Windows Add/Remove - Cannot find the .msi of the Adobe installer/uninstaller

Removing the item from registry (HKCU>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>.... remove "1F...") - Installer folder not there in HKCU, "1F.." entry not found in HKLM

Remove through command-line "-uninstall" command - uninstallation failed consult logs

Windows Install Clean Up Utility, Removed all Adobe AIR and Adobe Setup - no effact

Any help would be great. Thanks!

            Bump.

I've been scouring the internet for a week... still haven't found a solution.

Based on this log file, some critical files or registry entries from the 1.0 install were removed even before attempting the 1.1 install. Cleaning up what's left is probably what's necessary to clear the issue, although usually the Microsoft utility will take are of that.

In order to track down what's left, try running procmon during the install. If you save and post the log file you capture I can take a look at it.

Thanks for the response, but I reformatted my computer since I was in a rush to demo an AIR app I made. It works now, but the root of the problem was that I use a cleaner utility that periodically removes temporary files. I think the files it was looking for were in the temp directories.

                Thanks though!

@ssozonoff: It appears that the Windows Installer state on you rmachine is corrupted. I recommend trying a window installer cleanup utility (Microsoft offers a free one) to try and reset state associated with AIR.

                      Thanks that fixed the problem.

Thanks Oliver, I couldn't uninstall AIR or update it using any traditional methods, but running the Windows Installer Cleanup utility fixed the problem for me too.  I removed two entries for AIR in the installer list.
