    Reporting in Flex

I am new to Flex and I have been assigned to work on some reporting task (web user should be able to download the reports in pdf, excel and word).

I was wondering if flex has any inbuilt support for reporting. If no i want to use jasper reports but not sure how to integrate it with flex.

Does anyone have suggestions for me. Also, could anyone point me to some good tutorials on this?

Your requirements are a litle vague, so it's hard to point you in the right direction. As a start, Flex *can* generate PDFs and (some degree of) Excel spreadsheets client-side through third-party libraries. As far as I know, there is no Word support (third party or otherwise). If the reports are being generated server-side, however, there is little difference here between what Flex would do and what a standard HTML reporting app would do. Can you expand on what you mean by "support for reporting"?

I can share with you our process. We have used Jasper Professional in the past, however, we had to do it via XML file transfers, with a content reload via an http post service. Flex is fairly weak in complex analytics out of the box, however, you can create some very nice custom analytics using the Flex Data Visualization add-on.

The only built in reporting Flex has is the charting components and *very* limited support for printing of basic tabular reports (PrintDataGrid, will take a little effort getting this to work the way you want, most likely, and it's flexibility is limited).  If you need excel or PDF generation and don't use LCDS, you'll have to use a 3rd party tool and do it server side.  We do this using Jasper Reports, we have a regular http servlet that we call from Flex to trigger Jasper to run pre-generated reports designed in iReport.
