      So I finally ventured into Illustrator CS4 and I find that...:

       

      1. When creating a box with snap to grid on, it truly "snaps" to the grid.
      2. When changing the stroke position on the box, the control points do not change position to match the outside of the stroke, but keep their same position.

       

      Illustrator is suddenly useful to me. Wow. I am impressed. Tears of joy!

       

      Whoever made this happen, thank you!

       

      Now someone go smack the InDesign team with that correct stroke behavior!
