I think it is possible but you lose the Suite update call customer service.
Well that just bites. Seems there would be an allowance to just upgrade one application but I guess they couldn't maximize profits that way. I'll have to check into this more. Thanks.

No, I don't think that really is the point. Assuming one really uses multiple apps from the suites, it is more a matter of keeping integration. True, if you only use AI and only resort to other tools occasionally, you never notice that, but some workflows are quite dependent on all apps having the same version level. And of course there are lots of users who actually desire some of the new features and will gladly upgrade just for that. So it goes beyond your original statement, even though the financial part is important as well. No denying that.
