    MovieClipLoader and transparency

I created an empty movie clip and I'm loading an image into it and that works fine, however when I load a GIF with a transparent background the image fails to display. I switched it to PNG, same thing. Then I changed it to JPG with a black background and it works (of course without the transparency which I need).

Then I converted the GIF image to an SWF and it displays fine, BUT now the event handlers I set for mouse press and release don't work, they did work for non-transparent GIF and JPEG., so I'm stuck. I need transparency and I need to be able to call startDrag from within a mouse press and release.

Is there something special I need to do to get this to work with GIF's with transparency or SWF files?

I'm using Flash MX 2004 professional with Flash Player 8.

      This is what I'm doing:
