That is very odd. Can you select objects from the Layers panel?
Yes, I can select any / all objects via the layers panel. The mouse clicks work entirely as expected in all parts of the UI with the single exception of clicking to select objects directly in the design area!
This is the only application on my Mac showing this quirky behaviour. It really strange. I must be a FW thing - if it was something more fundamental, some problem with my Mac, then I'd have seen it elsewhere. However, If it's a FW thing, why has nobody else come across it?!
I don't experience that issue on my Mac. Can you share the PNG file,
or is this common to everything you're doing?
The stuff I have exported from Fireworks to either html or .lib files
have always worked. This is the first time I've tried a drop menu from
Fireworks. The html works; the .lbi file does not. The png is attached.
And thanks for your help.
The behaviour is not restricted to any one PNG - it's occurring for all images (previous ones designed with CS3, and newly created ones)
Since I can't find any other reference to the problem (even after extensive Googling) I realising the it must be linked to my Mac. But I can't begin to think what could be causing it - as I mentioned, nothing else acts this way.
There isn't a hidden User-must-drag-one-pixel-to-make-selection setting that I don't know about is there?!
Bizarrely right-clicking objects works just fine - the contexual menu pops right up without a problem.

Whoopie! Problem solved.
I'll write it up here in case anyone else has the same issue in the future...
I tried logging in to my Guest account to see if the problem persisted there - it didn't. So... must be a preference thing or something running under my account that's not running on the other account.
After a lot of trial and error, it tuned out to be a pref. pane: FunctionFlip (http://kevingessner.com/software/functionflip/ - used to set some F keys as function, and some as vol / brightness / etc.) Disabling the pref. pane instantly solves the issue.
Why a keyboard pref. pane screws up my mouse clicks - and only for one app. - I have no idea. I'm dropping a note to the author to let him/her know.
Thanks to those of you who responded.
Steve, thats aweome of you to post your own resolution to the problem. Hopefully it will help others who encounter thi issue.
