    How is this effect done?

      How is this effect of the 'B' top left done?



      It has a gradient which runs along the lines of the letter, rather than running through the letter as a whole object.

          It looks like an inner bevel (under Filters in the Properties panel), but when I tried it, I could only get darkening on one side. So...I duplicated the shape, moved the bevel around 180 degrees, made it smaller, and set that upper shape to have a blending mode of darken. FW .png file:



          Fireworks' text antialiasing is sometimes not as fine as I would like. If I have an important text element I will often create the image at 2 or 4 times the size I want, export, then reduce the flattened image.
