New RIG can you please have a quick look?

    xrayhead

      Hi All

I’ve been running Premiere Pro CS3 for a while now and just can’t get it to run smoothly on my Quad core (Q6600 @ 240GHz with 4Gig of ram) when editing HD.

So am looking to build a second rig at work to edit my HD and also do some gaming now and then. Can you please have a look at the spec I’ve come up with bellow and add any recommendations/comments?

Case, power supply and Sound Card I have already so don’t need to sort that out!

      Many thanks

      Xray

Looks good! Three remarks, maybe add another disk for exports and make sure you have a very good CPU cooler if you want to OC to 4 GHz, like a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme or a Noctua NH-U12P with push-pull fans. And add another 6 GB of memory to make the total 12 GB.

Only way I can go to 12 GB or RAM is to kill the OC, QUOTE (email I receved)

            Dear Xrayhead

Unfortunately we can't add 12GB into the order sadly, because it would kill the overclock on the bundle - so there'd be no point in really going for it. I hope this helps you, and thanks for the web note.

They have the Noctua cooler, so that is good. But the problem may be that the cooling ribs on the Patriot sticks may be too high for the CPU cooler and are rendering the 1-st DIMM slot useless, and thus the complete first bank of 3 DIMM slots. If that is their argument, maybe look at some other memory, because you are better off with 12 GB of memory and reducing your OC to 3.6 GHz than being limited to 6 GB. Their argument without a proper explanation looks at first sight to be utter BS. The Gigabyte is one of the best mobo's for overclocking, the Noctua in push-pull is the best cooler for stable OC-ing, so the only reason can be that the memory sticks are just hoo high physically. If you reduce your overclocking aspirations to around 3.6 GHz DDR3-1333 can be quite sufficient and will give you a lot more options.

I'd do the gaming on the current cimputer, only using the new one for video editing.
