Buying a new computer for Master Suite?

    INTYME1985 Community Member

What is the world running Master Suite on?

I currently have a P4, Pinnacle/Avid Studio, and leftover websites written in Frontpage.  I use MS Office for customers to order goods and services.  I want to adopt the Adobe standard to improve search engine ranking, update my web look and develop a web application to replace my current MS Office system.

I am debating just buying an i7 computer and "hitting the books" to learn Master Suite, or should I make the plunge and purchase a professional workstation (dual Xeon).

Video processing will be 15% of my work.  How fast of dual processors do I really need to run Premiere.

Any advice?  If I only had more money, and a brain, I wouldn't bother you.  Thanks in advance.

Well to be honest I'm sorta in a similar situation, we are setting up a new production shop but will be doing wide format printing and atm we are strictly a windows based office. But I have decided to take the plunge and have ordered a pair of Mac Pros for the art dept with dual quad core processors and loaded up on ram. Now before you jump and say hay this is the windows thread read on. The mac pro can run windows XP natively or as a windowed app your choice, and the Mac Pro appears to run windows better than any clone based hardware I have recently seen. I use both brand and non brand systems at work and home so I do have a pretty good base line to reference. Think about it at anyrate a well loaded Mac Pro is setting us back 4K each not bad in my books for what we are getting hardware wize.

Thank you for the reply.  I have considered a Mac too.  Right now the Dell T7500 is my top pick.  Seems after ignoring the "14 in stock" at micro center for the past month, all the i7s are gone now.

I need to sit in front of a Mac Pro see what it is all about.  Although PHP/MYSQL is appealing, I'll likely go MSSQL/ASP for my dynamic content to make moving my Office system easier.  I do have some other specialized Windows based apps too.

Thanks for the advice, coming from a real-time enviroment is very helpful.  I'll post back and let you know.  Have a great day

              fwiw,,,

I bought a Dell Studio XPS Win7 Ultimate.  nVidia GeForce GTX 260, 12gb 1066mhz memory, Intel Core i7-920 2.66 GHz, Dual Samsung SyncMasters 2343 (2048x1152), 1TB boot drive, 2x1.5TB data drives.

I bought the PC from the Dell Outlet, a "previously ordered" unit, monitors and extra harddrives from Microcenter.  After the OS upgrade and additional memory, it was about $2,000.

I haven't bought the Master Suite yet.  Acrobat is a no brainer, but unsure if I wanna lock myself into Adobe.  Avid's Media composer is the standard for video editing, and I know all my keyboard short cuts to my current photo editior.  Plus I don't have any upgrade path to the Master Suite from Dreamweaver, so I'll just end up with 2 Dw licenses.
