I am working on a 3D boat simulation. I was wondering what the best method might be to create the wake and splashing from the boat and it's engine. I figured splashing can be done with particles, but is there any other methods...maybe spawning mapped planes on the water surface as the boat moves? I'm looking for something that looks good, but doesn't kill poerformance.
Also are there any good tutorials/samples of particles in Director? I am assuming you can't just import a particle generator from a 3D paqckage...
planes would probably be the safest and quickest. bone animation is an option but more involved. an animated texture is another option but also very involved has to be done thru code
So would you reccomend using textured particles to produce the planes?
What makes an animated texture so difficult? You can't just use an animated file and map it to an object?
