My first thought was spam, but then I wasn't so sure because
the form isn't supposed to send if the telephone and fax fields
aren't all numbers.
Is it just that the bots can get round this and this is spam?
Or is there likely to be an error somewhere?
I have tested the form this morning and it has worked, but
I'd still like other opinions.

Your first thought was right.

totally useless. Validation must also be done server-side.
