Alphabetize Snippets?

We are starting to use more and more Snippets...and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the order they are displayed in within the Snippet Pod.  Certainly not alphebetized.  Can we impose an order?  We can't seem to move them...not being in alphabetical order is making it increasingly difficult to manage these.  Suggestions???

LOL, for what it's worth, it would seem that in RoboHelp 8 the snippets are automagickally sorted in the pod.

Hi Teri

Interesting question. I think others have asked as well.

Unfortunately there isn't really a way to do this easily. I tried exploring the rhsnippet.apj file thinking it was built in the order in which the snippets were created. Cracked it open in Notepad and was shocked to see it was alphabetized in Notepad. Hmmm

I then tried clobbering the .CPD thinking it would cause the file to be read in differently and suddenly see it was sorted. Nope

Carp!

I'm guessing you are using RoboHelp 7? If so, note that you may right-click a snippet in the pod and elect to reposition it.

Perhaps that will help you get where you need to be?

I'm perplexed about where exactly this information is stored!

Cheers... Rick

Thanks Rick!  I too just discovered the 'move' on the right-click menu...this will be painful...but it can be done.  Surely this would be an easy fix for Adobe??  Everything else is alphabetized!

Thanks for chiming in!  As always...you ARE helpful!!!

Hi again Teri

Well, I'm not sure if this will help any, but I did manage to sort where RoboHelp is storing the list of Snippets. The Windows Registry!

If you look in this location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\RoboHTML\7.00\Components\36

You should find a list of keys that map to each project you have worked with.

Locate the project and you should see the snippets listed.

I'm thinking you should be able to rearrange them by manipulating the Name0, Name1 and so on.

Perhaps that would be faster than the right click method. I'm not sure. Depends on how you view it!

Cheers... Rick
