    variable

    9thReg Level 1
      Hello all,

I've got a little icon that has the text "Environment" that is inside the Bindings tab of the Application panel of dreamweaver. Even when I create a blank page this is still there. What is an Environment Variable? How did it get there? What does it do? What can I do with it? How do I get rid of it?

      Thanks.

Are you working with server scripting? If so, which?

Those are your PHP environment variables.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry, but I'm still pretty new. What exactly is a PHP environment variable? What is it used for? Is this type of variable preferred over (or does it replace) other variable types?

It allows you to include 'environment' things (i.e., things that are part of
the PHP or Apache environment - like what you see when you have "phpinfo()"
in a page) in your PHP code, like the absolute path to the webserver's root
folder. This would let you work with root relative links in an include
                  file, for example....

Oh, I understand. Thank you very much. Are there any resources I might be able to get so I can learn more about them and how to use them?

Google "environment variables" with your favorite scripting language added.
