JSS1138 Oct 29, 2009 7:50 AM (in response to jkb242)Just have him send the project file and media (as well as any other assets like graphics and music). Then open the project. Premiere will ask you where things are that it needs.

jkb242 Nov 13, 2009 2:29 PM (in response to JSS1138)This is a follow up to the subject regarding the outcome of this sharing.
To recap, my friend has a iMac 7 intel based on which he save one project in PP CS4. He was using the MAC version of the Production Suite and knew that I had the PC version. Becuase of othere committments, he was not able to finish this project and wanted to bring me the files from the MAC for me to finish on my PC version of CS4. I was uncertain this would work so we tried it anyway.
He brought all assets from the project (music, audio files, added video clips, original video avi capture, etc.) which made up the complete project he had added along with the premier project file, (identical on the MAC and PC) along with all files in the Premier Pro/4.0 folder that were inside of a folder by the same name as that of the project. This was also the location of the premier pro project file (usese the same extension in the PC version). All files were placed in one folder on the PC and the project opened without any issues where final editing was completed. So, working between platforms is simply not a problem--nice indeed!
Hope others find this helpful.

6. Re: Sharing Projects between MAC and PC
Bill Hunt Nov 13, 2009 5:40 PM (in response to jkb242)This is not directly useful, but I have Opened and used Pr 6.5 Mac Projects (just had to add the file extension) in PrPro 2.0 on PC. Only issue was with a couple of 3rd party Transitions, and one that was no longer in PrPro. PrPro was kind enough to give full details of these omissions, plus their exact location in the Project.
So long as you do not use any PC-specific Effects, or Transitions (there IS a difference between CS4 for the two platforms in this respect), I would guess that so long as each has the necessary media files, all will be good.
One concern might be with external HDD's, as earlier Mac OS's could ONLY read/write to PC FAT-32 formatted HDD's. I seem to think that this might now be different, but you should check into any external HDD formatting conflicts.
Good luck,
Hunt

Bill Hunt Nov 13, 2009 5:43 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Here's an ARTICLE on the "missing" Effects & Transitions on the Mac vs the PC.
You might want to steer clear of any of these in an X-platform situation.

9. Re: Sharing Projects between MAC and PC
Bill Hunt Nov 14, 2009 10:50 AM (in response to jkb242)Thanks for sharing the details and your success. All of my references were to older program versions, so could be totally outdated now.
The location of the media files in the same folder on both machines is a good idea. At the very least, it saves one having to address the message, "OK, where'd you move that 001.AVI file to?"
In my past experiences, I did have to do some relinking of Assets, but felt that was a very small price to pay for being able to work on a 4 year old Mac Project on my PC machine.
Greatly appreciated - now we know for sure!
