It's hard to say without knowing more about your system's hardware, operating system and the type of camcorder your video is coming from.
Thanks for responding Steve. I should know better; I think frustration sat in :). The camera most of my video is shot with is a Sony Handycam DCR SR80 hard drive. I now have Dazzle and may begin to use that for capturing. If I can get PE8 to work for me, I will certainly try to capture with it's software.

Check disabling the GPU playback option from the "Edit>>Preferences>>Genaral" option. There seem to be some issue with the player here.
