I've been using Illustrator since 1989 and I have never seen anything this ominous before. I am on a MAC G5 running 10.5.8 using CS4.
I recently reopened a document I did the day before to discover that the vector art on one of the layers was converted to a crappy bitmap! I've tried everything to recover the original vector art but it's no use. The file is now uneditable.
Anyone ever have this happen to them? Any ideas what can possibly cause this to occur?
Only two reasons I can imagine: You are seeing the preview thumbnail of a linked file instead of the content or you have flattened the apaperance, causing conversion to bitmap.
