1. Re: Only Momentary Menu Operation
Bill Hunt Nov 10, 2009 1:10 PM (in response to jkb242)Usually, when Preview works for navigation (though it is just a rough emulation), but things do not work on a set-top player, it's the fault of the blank media used. Remember, no set-top player is certified to play ANY burned DVD-Video. Most do fine, but the brand of media, and the burn speed can cause issues. I use only Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden blank media and always burn at about 2/2.4x. Some claim that burn speed is no longer an issue, but I have yet to have one returned DVD.
Also, is any Button set to Auto Activate? That can do the same thing and might not be noticable in Preview.
Good luck,
Hunt

Thanks so much for the reply. Oddly, this problem seem to be related to a defect that developed in the menu. What I did was to add a new menu and rebuilt it from the existing assets of the original project. I then made a DVD but used the folder output so only the DVD files were created. I played that back using a software player (cyberlink in my case) and the menu items worked fine. The original menu that had the initial problem showed up in the cyberlink player as bad as well. Once the new menu worked in cyberlink, I simply concluded that it was fixed but the cause remains unknown but I don't like that kind of solution for obvious reasons.
The auto activate button is interesting
I always wondered about that. It seems that this is on by default but maybe not, I don 't have Encore open at the moment. Button 1 is by default the first auto-selected button but that's not the same as on that auto-activatessomething to keep in mind. Thanks again so very much!!

3. Re: Only Momentary Menu Operation
Bill Hunt Nov 10, 2009 2:07 PM (in response to jkb242)Jerry,
Good news is that you found the workaround - a new Menu.
I'd tear the old one apart, and look for some issue with it, using the known good one as a guide. It seems most likely that there was a link that was wrong, or an Override someplace, that got reset, when you deleted the old Menu and inserted the new one. Overrides (they are all over the place and should be avoided in almost every case) can cause similar issues, though I have not seen one exactly like yours.
Let us all know if you do find the glitch in the old Menu, as someone else can likely benefit from the efforts. If needed, you can e-mail the two to me and I'll pour over them. If your POP server will not handle the .PSD's, you can post to a service, like YouSendIt, and I can download the two Menus. Just let me know.
Good luck,
Hunt
