Steve Grisetti Nov 8, 2009 2:31 PM (in response to jtlindrooth)There is no reason you should not be able to install Premiere Elements 7 on Windows 7, jt.
But what operating system did you upgrade from? As you probably know, upgrading from XP is very different than upgrading from Vista!

Bill Hunt Nov 8, 2009 2:43 PM (in response to jtlindrooth)Welcome to the forum.
When you say "upgraded to Win 7," how did you do this? Was it a full system wipe and new installation?
Good luck,
Hunt

Bill Hunt Nov 8, 2009 3:01 PM (in response to jtlindrooth)Many users have experienced all sorts of problems with just an OS upgrade, and not a full wipe and clean install. I don't know if this is your problem though.
Good luck,

Steve Grisetti Nov 8, 2009 5:15 PM (in response to jtlindrooth)Actually, the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista seems to go very well, Hunt. In fact, you most likely won't even need to reinstall any programs! So I'm not sure why jt is having problems.
(This is not so with the XP-to-7 upgrade, of course, which requires a complete reinstall.)
jt, did you remove your programs before you upgraded Vista to 7?

jtlindrooth Nov 8, 2009 5:28 PM (in response to Steve Grisetti)Thanks for responding. W7 said I had to remove the PE7 before it would upgrade. Now I can't reinstall. I keep getting a huge error message about missing files. Maybe I should check to make sure everything is uninstalled?

Can you post the details of the error message? There might well be something there, that will help folk identify the exact problem.
Good luck,

Steve,
Thanks for that info. On the PrPro forum, that has not been the common experience and many users have had to go back to a wipe and clean install to solve problems. Most of these issues were not with the reinstallation of PrPro, but with running Win7 in general. Now, I do not know how many of these issues were with Win7 RC, or maybe even earlier. It seems that more folk jumped onto the Win7 bandwagon much earlier than usual, and tried to do paying work with a beta and a RC OS.
I'll try to track down what versions of Win7 have been giving the "update" problems and report.
Appreciated,
Hunt

jtlindrooth Nov 8, 2009 9:00 PM (in response to John T Smith)The answer is that PE7 is compatible with 32 bit W7 but not 64 bit. Oh well.
Thank you everybody for your help.

Hello Juliet,
Where did you find that answer? My belief was that PRE7 runs as a 32bit application in 64bit W7. If what you say is correct I'm going to have to revisit my upgrade plans (I'm sittng on my W7 64bit version until I've got my backup and apps migration plans worked out).
Cheers,

Best of Luck

wthwth Nov 9, 2009 7:45 AM (in response to jtlindrooth)Give this a try since "p" is missing in the search.
Seems to come up as compatible in 64 bit mode. Does one missing letter in the search cause this?
ADDED: Also, your search came up with "Photoshop", not "Premiere".

And it says PSE7 is incompatible with 64 bit W7. Is that right?

Thanks for pointing that out. But I'm still concerned as I see the Window7 64bit compatibility page (for photoshop elements) is showing:
Information coming soon
We are working with the software publisher to confirm this product’s compatibility.
and Premiere Elements 7 doesn't even get a mention in the compatibility pages.

The Windows 7 compatibility pages for both PRE7 and PSE7 have been updated to flag compatibility as "Get paid upgrade" for both 32bit & 64bit!
Seems to me to be a Microsoft/Adobe stitch-up, not to mention being factually incorrect (Adobe do not offer an upgrade path for the Elements products).

24. Re: windows 7 and PE7
PKFlo Mar 30, 2010 5:39 PM (in response to jtlindrooth)I was running Photoshop Element 7 in Vista Home Premium - 64 Bit. I upgraded (simple Upgrade, NOT a clean reinstall) to Windows 7. The Compatibility report did NOT flag PE 7; only application that was flagged was iTunes, even that was wrong! I simply upgraded and my PE 7 ran fine in my Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 Bit with just one problem. The problem was that I was getting 3 little cursers when I selected any Edit tool. But that problem was solved by simply reducing the font sizt to 149 (it was set at 150). That's it. Everything just runs fine, including my iTunes!!!
Hope this helps some.
