I think I know the answer to this, but just wanted to see if there were any alternatives.
I have around 30 Mini DV tapes - some getting quite old and starting to lose their quality due to age. Clearly, backing them up to a HD is going to be a laboursome task, but worthwhile given the hours of memories! I have looked around, and there are a number of programmes which will back these tapes up, but not in the right format for use in PP CS4.
Ok, so my question is - can I capture the video using PP (or any other program) without creating a Project? My idea at the moment in to create a project and download all of the tapes into that Project and then move the assets created (i.e. the AVI files) onto an external HD (so as to save space) and then delete the Project itself. That way, I end up with a (HUGE) library of all my videos.
Laboursome, tedious and somewhat costly in terms of data storage - so if anyone has a better idea, please let me know!!
All the best
Use Scenalyzer, better, easier, no need for a project and the possibility of creating indices of your tapes.
Within Premiere, it is not possible to capture without creating a project (or using an existing one).
Scenealyzer - what a great bit of kit. Perfect for what I want - thank you Harm!
