By default a [Bindable] property will result in a PropertyChangeEvent being dispatched when the property is set.
So listening for PropertyChangeEvent.PROPERTY_CHANGE on your host component would do the trick (and then testing that event.property matches the name of your property).

Don't take this method as pretty or the right way but i do something similar but instead of the behaviour looping i rerun it in the effectend function.
play(target,FlexGlobals.toplevelApplication.myvar) determines the direction.
Chet seems to be the resident expert with animations/effects etc im sure he can chime in with a more elegant solution.
And as I type up comes the elegant solution
