Same problem here. What you can do is create a new account and run after effects from there.
You're lucky of only AE crashes, i have illustrator, bridge and after effects crashing at start-up.
But it's ok if i run those programs from a new account.
Yeah that worked actually, thanks. BUT I'm not going to switch users every time I need to use AE. Adobe/Apple need to sort it out!
I am attaching a console log file that might shed some light on this problem, hoping someone from Adobe will read/use it.
According to your log, it consistently crashes when initializing OpenGL. The strange thing is, it probes correctly for OpenGL features and reports them compliant to AE, but still crashes. That would indicate, that another process is interfering or a system library not loaded, so it ends up in a black hole. Well, maybe someone from the team can comment on this...
OK, check this out!
I uninstalled After Effects CS4 and then re-installed it BUT before I launched it I installed the update to version 9.0.2. THEN before I launched it I restarted the Mac and now it works like a dream!
It worked for me so thought I'd share. We all know how computers are though so don't be surprised if it doesn't!
Good luck! x
