1. Re: CS3 - Cannot open RAW files
John Joslin Nov 16, 2009 10:03 AM (in response to D.S.E.)I have no idea what that bit of advice was from Adobe was supposed to mean – it is totally wrong.
What camera do you have?

3. Re: CS3 - Cannot open RAW files
Curt Y Nov 16, 2009 6:59 PM (in response to D.S.E.)Most of the RAW fle problems are traced to the ACR installed in the wrong folder, or there is more than one copy in the folder.
In PS go to help/about plug-in/camera raw. If installed it should list the version. 4.6 is the last version for CS3.
New versions of cameras may not be supported.

4. Re: CS3 - Cannot open RAW files
John Joslin Nov 17, 2009 1:24 AM (in response to D.S.E.)1 person found this helpfulThe 40D requires ACR version 4.2 and the 20D is also covered by this.
A fresh installation of CS3 will probably have an earlier version, check in PS Help > About plug-in... to see which version you have.
If it's too old, get the latest 4.xx from here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4036
And follow the instructions exactly!

5. Re: CS3 - Cannot open RAW files
D.S.E. Nov 17, 2009 2:59 PM (in response to John Joslin)Thanks guys for your continued help. I tried some downloads from Adobe and Photoshop and Bridge got really hosed up. Photoshop would not open any file and the error message was the program file client 3.1.01 versioncueUI.LL could not be found. I found a patch and the took care of the problem. I can now open RAW images. I still get a funky error message. When I try to close out Photoshop I get an error message that Photoshop quit working. When I click on the box, the program closes.
Now I cannot open Bridge. There was an additional download that went along with the patch referenced above. I did download that, but it didn't solve the problem.

6. Re: CS3 - Cannot open RAW files
John Joslin Nov 17, 2009 3:28 PM (in response to D.S.E.)1 person found this helpfulI recommend going into Edit > Prefereces > File Handling... and unchecking Enable Version Cue.
Then close Photoshop and try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

9. Re: CS3 - Cannot open RAW files
Camera121 Nov 19, 2009 11:55 AM (in response to John Joslin)I, too, am new to this forum,
so please excuse me if this seems redundant. Last night I downloaded an
upgrade of CS3 onto my HP computer. It runs Windows 7.
I remembered that I had to download a new ACR software, after the RAW file would not open in CS3. I downloaded the software, extracted ACR, but it will not open. On top of that, Bridge is telling me that it may not be compatable with the OS of my HP.
Any help will be appreciated.

10. Re: CS3 - Cannot open RAW files
Curt Y Nov 19, 2009 12:06 PM (in response to Camera121)Check post #3 above. ACR 5.x will only work on CS4, so make sure you have 4.6.
