1. Re: Print Centering in LR2
Ian Lyons Nov 21, 2009 3:01 PM (in response to skphotos51)With many printers the trailing edge has a larger border than the leading edge and sides. This difference usually accounts for the image being off centre when all sides are set equal in Layout. Same problem occurs in Photoshop.

skphotos51 Nov 21, 2009 3:07 PM (in response to skphotos51)Thanks Ian,
I guess this means I'll have to figure out every setting experimentally rather than logically. It seems a bit odd though that we tell LR what printer we're using and what size paper is in the printer and it still won't center the print based on logical settings rather than having to try a bunch to see what works.

Ian Lyons Nov 21, 2009 3:43 PM (in response to skphotos51)Each printer manufacturer will have their own minimum edge size. I only use Epson printers and usually find the default minimum margin (3.2mm on each side) is only off centre by 1mm. Therefore, I set the right edge offset to 4.2. On an A4 sheet this prints dead centre.

ChuckTribolet Nov 22, 2009 7:41 AM (in response to skphotos51)Does your printer have a setting for borderless? It's worth trying that.
And what printer do you have?

skphotos51 Nov 22, 2009 7:58 AM (in response to ChuckTribolet)Yes, it does have a borderless setting. I'm using an HP 8750 wide format printer. What will engaging the borderless setting do for me getting my print to be centered on the paper?

MadManChan2000 Nov 23, 2009 3:09 PM (in response to skphotos51)The other thing you may have to do, if you're on the Mac, is first visit the Page Setup dialog box and select your printer model from the "Format for:" popup menu. At least on my system (10.5.8), that popup defaults to "Any Printer". This can result in off-centered prints, such as the one Ian described -- i.e., training margin wider than leading margin. When I set it to my printer (Epson 3800) then I get centered prints.

dkosiur Nov 24, 2009 10:11 AM (in response to skphotos51)Also, if you're using a Mac, you can create a custom paper size that has equal margins on all sides. For example, I've created a page size called "8.5x11 centered", which has the same 0.5 inch margin for each side.

ChuckTribolet Nov 24, 2009 11:04 AM (in response to skphotos51)Borderless is worth a try. If the printer and LR are both applying a border, you may well get an off-center print.

Paolo Avezzano Sep 25, 2011 5:48 AM (in response to skphotos51)I own a R3000.
I found that for an A3+ sheet the margins are not correct.
As for other Epson printer it should 3,2mm on each side, however, looking at the sheet in portrait orientation, right and lower margins are thicker. This even occurs for constant 5mm margins all over the sides.
I tried 7mm margins and it seems to print correctly.
Should I stay with .7cm or would you suggest me to try with mistaken-on-purpose values such as thinker left and top margins to have them printed correctly?
Regards,
Paolo
