I hope your project is going well. Drag and drop is a great feature, but Flash Catalyst 1.0 doesn't support authoring this type of interactivity. It certainly something we will consider in the next version.
Here some information on drag and drop in Flash Builder if you want to see how drag and drop is coded:
That article will help you get started dragging around items in a list. To simply drag objects around, you can use DragManager.doDrag():
As Ty said, you will have to write some code.
Thanks a lot! I will handle it to my developer so I don't get my hands dirty in code!
I think it will be great if you will consider to build a nice Drag and Drop function in to the next version. I remember that Director in good old days had an easy "ready made" Drag and Drop function for us lazy ( non ) coders.
We just converted or project from Flex to Flash builder because we wanted to benefit from Catalyst and the nice interplay between designers and developers. And most of the process has been successful. We just had some problems with the Drag and Drop functions.
We will check out the links you send us and get back. Thanks!
I agree - this would be a really good feature. Could do with someone designing an extension!
I've Just Started a trial of Catalyst and I am very much looking forward to checking it out. The project I'm working on means I need to quickly prototype Drag & Drop, and I think this feature is needed at the Interaction Design level so I can test on users as quick as I could with a paper prototype & asking them to move things around that way.
Massive +1 For this feature. Doesnt need to be fancy (can be refined in development), but Direct Manipulation/Drag and drop is much desired for me.
Thanks for voicing your support for drag and drop. I thought I'd mention there is a Flash Catalyst wishlist site, where you can add your ideas for future enhancements as well as vote to promote ideas other Catalyst community members have already entered. You can find the site here:
The Flash Catalyst team is really interested in hearing what is important to you for future versions!
Also, there's an interesting tutorial written by Krystal Higgins, showing how she simulated a drag and drop in Catalyst, which you might find useful:
