What operating system and version of After Effects are you using? If you're using After Effects CS4, have you updated to After Effects CS4 (9.0.2)? Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing?
I am on After Effects version 184.108.40.206 all right.
Windows Vista 64 Service Pack 2 Build 6002
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz, 2139 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 7 GenuineInt
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8,00 GB
When AE is running (right now): Available Physical Memory 5,24 GB
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing?
Eh .. well .. yes, turned it on now :-)
As a matter of fact, I am unable to reproduce this issue right now, however, it has been a plague, I can ensure you. Maybe turing on Multiple Frames solved it? I will report back in the very near future. Also see my new thread on Vista SP2!
Turning on Multiple Frames did not solved it. I have to restart AE alle the time to take advantage of RAM preview. I hope I have overlooked something that others can help me with!
When you updated to SP2, did you check your driver setup? Sounds like one of them is operating in quirks mode now due to not being perfectly compatible. It might also bve relevant to reset your BIOS info and let it auto-configure again. Sometimes updating an OS affects the boot options...
I believe you know a lot about Adobe After Effects, and I am always eager to read your tips and advices. Regarding AE that is. When it comes to what's outside AE, on the other hand, I have my own ideas ;-)
Ingvar, my question about Render Frames Simultaneoulsy was not a suggestion to turn it on to fix your problem. It was a question in an attempt to help you to discover the source of your problem.

And now we know that it occurs with this turned off (as I had it before) as well as when it is turned on (as I have it now). I am still experimenting and not the least Googling for a solution, I will come back when (if) I am wiser..
