2. Re: Need to change color of template
gener7 Nov 26, 2009 2:27 PM (in response to talbot)You do not need to do this for each layer. Just the ones with the color elements of the webpage, and only those that are visible. (eyeball on in layers panel)
When you select the layer, then you go to the Image menu,Adjustments, and select Variations. You can interactively experiment until you find what's best.
My layer thumbnails are large so I can see at a glance what element I'm looking at. Use the Layers Panel menu to get to Panel Options and select Large Thumbnails.
Of course back up that template before loading into PS in case you need to do it over.
That should get you started.

4. Re: Need to change color of template
gener7 Nov 26, 2009 3:17 PM (in response to dec9)Yep,PrintScreen and Save for Web is my usual quick & dirty way.
So's my method on this. If there are more polished ways to do this out there,I can stand to learn as well
Btw,I used "save file" and directly downloaded that psd to my desktop. Then I opened it. I have 2.5 Mbps adsl and that worked.

5. Re: Need to change color of template
dec9 Nov 26, 2009 3:57 PM (in response to gener7)I did not try the download to desktop the first time. I just tried the download to the desk as you wrote and as you said it was very fast. Sometimes I don't see the forest with all them trees in the way.

talbot Nov 26, 2009 4:16 PM (in response to gener7)Been away gobbling turkey....
Sorry for the large file, I thought that being able to see the PSD would be helpful and din't think of my low bandwidth brothers and sisters...
I'm going to work on it like you mentioned gener7, thanks for the tips! I will report back on my progress. But I must say, your screen shot looks pretty good!

7. Re: Need to change color of template
talbot Nov 26, 2009 4:39 PM (in response to talbot)Ok, there must be a trick for using that variation tool by getting an AVA file that holds the color palate I want. My client gave me a hex number #654BE5 but not sure how to get it in the variation tool. I did a search on AVA files but not turning up much in the way of getting them or creating them.

gener7 Nov 26, 2009 6:04 PM (in response to talbot)Hmmm...I didn't know you were given a specific color,and variations can't do that.
Check this tutorial then.

9. Re: Need to change color of template
talbot Nov 26, 2009 6:22 PM (in response to gener7)I actually got it to work like this: Created a new file and gave it that predetermined color. Then went to image/adjustments/variations and saved it. Then when back to the original, loaded it after opening an image to change and clicked the make blue until it was right. I then saved that and it is carrying through as a default as I do the rest of the layers.
Round 2 of gobbling down - back in an hour

10. Re: Need to change color of template
gener7 Nov 26, 2009 6:28 PM (in response to talbot)Ok,then that works as well.
Hoping for a happy client
The Color Overlay method as shown in the tutorial might make for a good "Plan B."
