    swf file

when I publish a swf file on my computer, I get "swf movie" under file type.  However, I when look at the file on another computer, the file type shows up as "shockwave flash object" and the computer does not recognize the file type.   Does this mean the computer doesn't have flash player downloaded?

a swf file was originally called a shockwave file by macromedia.

But if the swf file is showing up as an unknown file on the computer, does that mean the computer doesn't have flash player downloaded?  Or do I need to change my publish settings?

it means there is no program to display swf files on that computer or you need to assign the desired program (like the flash player) to open files with the swf extension.

The swf files are showing up as unknown files, however my captivate project seems to be playing some of the swf files just fine.  The only thing I can think of is that the swf files that aren't working have action scripting, and the ones that are working don't.  I'm publishing the same every time.

Do you think the action scripting is what's causing the issue?

Sorry for the cross-posting, I'm sure that's not proper forum etiquette, but I thought the title didn't really match the issue.
