I just got a new Sony HDR-XR500V camcorder. When I render videos from PE8 (using source videos from this new camcorder) to either wmv or mpeg format, I run into one of two situations. If I check "Scale to Frame Size", then I end up video that video that has a large border around it (on all four sides) - meaning it only takes up a portion of the media player screen. If I uncheck "Scale to Frame Size" then I end up with video that is severely cropped on all four sizes - so I am missing much of the picture (but it at least takes up the entire medai player screen). Is there some other setting where I can get it to fill the entire space but not crop the video?
Your camcorder is an AVCHD camcorder. You need to ensure that, when you start a new Premiere Elements project, you're selecting the AVCHD 5.1 audio project preset.
If you choose the correct project preset, Scale to Frame Size will be irrelevant.
Thanks. That did the trick.
As Steve points out, one's Project Preset must match the source footage (Video & Audio) perfectly, or one will encounter problems.
Once that is done, and editing is complete, then you can Export/Share to desired formats/CODEC's, with desired Frame Size.
