1. Re: Help! Need to print my 100-page document onto very thin paper
P Spier Dec 10, 2009 7:37 AM (in response to Talyianna)WOW.
I just checked my roll of tracing paper, and I don't think it's thin enough to do what you want, even ignoring the fact that you need a cover, too.
May father sometimes tells about a job he had in the army printing the word "COPY" onto sheets of onion skin paper. He had a POW assigned to grab each sheet as it left the press in order to flatten it out before it had a chance to roll into a tube the size of a soda straw.
You might find a specialty printer with a web press that can do it, but there's probably no way anyone could read the book. Paper that thin is so transparent the opposite side of the page would show through, even if the ink didn't soak through. This sounds like some sort of manual that needs to go on aircraft or something. Is there a way to reduce the page count by adjusting the type size, or finding a bigger space to fit it into?

2. Re: Help! Need to print my 100-page document onto very thin paper
Gernot Hoffmann Dec 10, 2009 8:43 AM (in response to P Spier)3/16 inch = (3/16)*25.4 mm = 4.76 mm
The german electronics distributor
www.conrad.biz
offers the customers printed catalogues.
The catalogues are printed on thin paper.
202 pages = 101 paper sheets
consume 4.3 mm (compressed by the caliper).
CMYK, and the readability is rather good.

P Spier Dec 10, 2009 11:48 AM (in response to Gernot Hoffmann)I didn't think one was necessary. Your post seemed to stand well on its own.

Talyianna Dec 10, 2009 12:19 PM (in response to Gernot Hoffmann)Gernot,
Thank you very much! I am going to try to contact them and see if they can help us in some way or at least give us some more information about the paper they use.
I appreciate your help:)

6. Re: Help! Need to print my 100-page document onto very thin paper
Ildhund Dec 11, 2009 3:46 AM (in response to Talyianna)The experts at printing on thin stock are bible printers. My prayer book is 15mm thick and 696 pages. That makes each just over .02mm thick, so 101 would only be 2mm thick. My hymn book is a bit bulkier - 1236 pages at 39mm thick, so 100 pages would be about 3.2mm or 1/8". The first is printed by Cambridge University Press, the second by Richard Clay of Bungay, a very prolific book printer. These are both in England, but I'm sure Google will find you similar firms wherever you are (your profile isn't very informative!)

Gernot Hoffmann Dec 11, 2009 4:10 AM (in response to Talyianna)Christine,
you're welcome.
In addition to Noel's post:
I found some information by the German paper distributor
Papier Union:
http://www.papierunion.de/pau/generator/page=prod1.3/id=55506.jsp
There is no information about thickness, but the weight is only
45g/m2, and bibles and dictionaries are mentioned.
You may search similarly in your place.
Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann
