Problem with Win7 Ultimate 64bit and Illustrator CS4...

This just started today. I launch Illustrator CS4 amd all of a sudden my CPU usage spikes, it only shows that it's using 146mb of 4gigs of RAM and even after I close the app after several tries, the CPU usage is still spiking. I have to do a hard restart to get my machine back. I have tried resetting my AI prefs as well with no luck. My specs are as follows:
      Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
      BFG GeForce 9800 GTX
      XFX 8200 GeForce mobo
      4gigs of DDR2 RAM
      --DRIVES--
      Primary-250gig WD
      Secondary-150gig WD
      HP CD/DVD
      my system is self built.

Run as administrator and check task manager. This may simply be one of the Adobe services trying to connect externally e.g. for checking for updates, verifying licensing info and registration and such. If your user account doesn't have sufficient privileges to establish network connections on certain ports or configure services, those things can get stuck...
