Please tell us about your source footage and also your Project Preset. Likely a problem there.
Also, have you updated your video driver in the last week? If not, I'd do so.
This is aimed at Premiere Pro, but may help

I updated the video driver, but no luck.
I am trying to edit '.mp4' video from my digital camera. But the source doesn't matter. I experience the same problem with '.avi' and '.vob' files.
So I start the software and import the video. As soon as I move the video to the timeline, the video shows up in the monitor panel as purple.
Running Windows 7 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB of RAM. I bought the computer about 2 years ago.
I appreciate your help
Change the scratch disk location and check enough space on your hard disk to render/play the movie. Scratch disk location you can change edit > Prefrences
Are you using a JVC everio?
I don't have an answer for you -- I am way too much of a newbie, but my monitor panel
in PRE8 comes up as a white box with no video at all in it. After more than 4 hours with tech support and several helpful replies to
my post, a trip to the computer shop with the computer, changing every preference possible, it never has worked more than about 10% of the time. I uninstalled and then reinstalled PRE7 and it works like a dream. I too have much more powerful of a system than is required and I made sure every driver and ancillary program (Quick Time and Windows Media Player) were updated to current. ]
I would recommend that you send the info to the Adobe bug report site and maybe if enough of us do that, they will figure that there really is a problem with the monitor function in PRE8.
Good luck to you!!!!
