I'm basically a java developer and am new to flex. To start off with im going through the getting started with flex doc and a few others.
As a hands on thing i'm trying to do the following:
I have a zip file which has a directory/subdirectory level structure which contains images in them. So what i want to do is that be able to unpack the zip file and then have a mx:tree representation of the folder structure in the zip. Now these are the things that i am confused about:
It would be great if someone could point me in the right direction. Any links would be helpful.
1. I do not think flex has some libraries for reading the internal structure of a zipped file, so you should consider using java side.
2.As you can see mx:Tree has a dataProvider and a dataDescriptor. You could pass a XMLList type object to dataProvider, or you can pass with every type of object you want with the condition to pass a dataDescriptor. This dataDescriptor will be used for the given dataProvider object and explore it's children etc.
Look at examples : http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/flex/3/langref/mx/controls/Tree.html
and for descriptors have a look at : http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/flex/3/langref/mx/controls/treeClasses/ITreeDataDescriptor.h tml
3. Not necessarly to use BlazeDS, you could use URLRequest from which you get your xml, but if you would like your structure of data I would suggest searching for some tutorials about BlazeDS.
Look at the examples : http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/net/URLRequest.html
Thanks a lot..
I'll have a lok=ok into the links
