Let me clarify: I'd like to be able to set up common library elements in a way similar to InDesign's linked files, where if a designer opens up a document it gets automatically updated with any changes made to the common library. Is this possible with Fireworks, or are the common library elements generally just one-way?
Looks like what I'm going to end up doing is just making all of my custom common library symbols first, then dropping them into a master document (kind of like a style guide, I suppose). Then when I update my subsequent documents, I can just point to that master document and they *should* in theory update properly.
Having any luck with this? I have the same concerns.
Yeah, I found out Fireworks really doesn't work this way. I did find a
workaround, though. If you generate your symbols in a common document first,
like have one document that holds all your "common items" and then import
them into the documents you want to use them in, you can use the "update"
command in the document library to kind of have a hacked version of a common
library. It sucks.
Thanks Chris. I'll try it.
