I think I will then stay with the ripple insertion and then manually close the gap by dragging the rest of the music clip to the left, because I don't want to alter the existing assets. Next time I will try to add music at the latest stage when all video's and photo's are in place.
You could also simply put the photos "on top" of your existing video by placing your photos on a new video track ABOVE your exisiting video track.
I cannot recall if I mentioned this workflow in the linked article, but if so, please ignore this.
You can Export/Share just the Audio in the form of a PCM/WAV file. Then, just Import that Exported file back into the Project. Then, you can delete your music from the Timeline, edit at your leisure, and then just drag your complete music file to the Timeline.
