Is it possible to create a blue lens flare like the ones used in Star Trek using only After Effects? Especially the first logo here: http://trekmovie.com/2009/02/20/new-star-trek-movie-has-shiney-new-logo/.
Here's an additional example:
Knoll Light Factory seems like it could do this: http://redgiantsoftware.stores.yahoo.net/knollexamples.html. Although I don't see that particular flare in the photos.
These are done in-camera, as expleained in teh bonus features of the Star Trek DVD/ BluRay. The intro uses a plug-in and was done by Andrew Kramer, who soon will bring out a lensflare plug-in himself. In thze meantime, simply study his tutorials on how to create lighting effects using conventional AE tools, have a look at my lensflare project or use otehr plug-ins, which could include Knoll, but not necessarily.
I agree with Mylenium. There are several ways you can do this.
In case you're interested in Knoll Light Factory, I can attest that it is fantastic. You can use it to create just about any lens flare effect you want (and their new script plugin makes it even better).
