    Relative linking

I am working in InDesign CS4 and have a book that contains different chapters. I made a book file as well. When I am sending these files to the customer, I package each chapter and put everything on a DVD. When they are opening the files, they are saying that the links are broken and that I need to use relative linking. As far as I can tell, InDesign does not support this, am I correct?  Is there something I can have the customer do so that they do not need to re-link anything?  Thanks.

If you are using the File > Package command and putting the packages on the DVD, it should be working.

ID uses absolute linking, but if the absolute link is missing, it will search the current directory, and subfolders, where the ID file itself is stored. If you have separated the links folder from the ID file they ought to be found automatically unless the user turns off updating links in their preferences.

That is exactly what I'm doing, so they would need to re-link one file in order for it find the rest of the links. When I disconnect myself from our network and open up one of the files, this is what I have to do. I just wanted to make sure that ID didn't have a relative linking option.

Thank you for your quick response.
