1. Re: Type curser won't "activate" and Links pop-up window question
P Spier Dec 27, 2009 12:07 PM (in response to Big Jimm)Question one sounds like you maight have put your text frame in the inside area of an "empty" background or border frame. If you zoom out, is your cursor in the upper left conrener of the other frame?
Telling ID not to check for missing links when files are opened became a user option in CS4 for workflows that don't need to print. I fought very hard to keep at least a warning -- if you want it -- because missing links are a serious problem for any file you intend to output.

2. Re: Type curser won't "activate" and Links pop-up window question
Big Jimm Dec 28, 2009 1:49 PM (in response to P Spier)Thanks for info Peter. Yes, my curser DOES flash in the upper left corner usually (maybe always) when I'm trying to activate some text in the document.
After reading what you said, it's probably because I do have an underlying color filled border frame beneath the text. I didn't realize that text above it could be effected by a lower, non-text background. What can I do do avoid this? I like to do my final text-editing after everything is in place. Am I to believe that I have to do ALL text editing without my bottom border frame in place? Any work-around?
Glad to hear that in CS4 you can turn off the links notice. I print very little anymome. Most everything I do, I send over the net. I still have ID CS3 but do have Illlustrstor and Photoshop CS4s. Do you think ID-CS4 would be a worthwile upgrade for me? I can't see a lot of change.
Thanks so much.
Jim

3. Re: Type curser won't "activate" and Links pop-up window question
P Spier Dec 28, 2009 2:04 PM (in response to Big Jimm)By default when you click with the text tool in any empty frame or shape, regardless of what you intended when you created the frame, it instantly converts it to a text frame and activates the cursor. You can put the backgorund on another layer and lock or hide it to stop this, or change the behavior in your preferences.
Ifound pelenty to like in the CS4 upgrade, but it would depend on your particular work. If you're happy now, you might want to wait for CS5.

I looked there. What would I change in the prefs?
Thanks.
