    Clean Install PSE 8?

    faptexecdir

I am considering updating my current PSE 4 installation to PSE 8.  Should I do a clean install, or let it detect my current PSE 4 catalog and files?  the OS is Win XP Pro, SP3.

My wife is the primary user and will get VERY frustrated if PSE 8 changes the manually adjusted dates of her photos.  She has used the Adjust Date feature on many photos over the years that were taken with other people's cameras whose dates were not set correctly.  If a clean install is recommended how do I completely uninstall PSE 4 without losing the original photo files and without losing the adjusted dates on the files?  If just installing on top of PSE 4 is recommended, will PSE 8 retain the dates that she modified so laboriously with PSE 4.  I'll be in big doodoo if I mess up the dates of all the photos in her catalogue.

Complicating matters, I think I also have an orphaned version of Photoshop Album 2.0 on the machine that I've been afraid to remove.  Any advice and a recommended routine for a backup that I can safely revert to is greatly appreciated.  Thanks for keeping me straight before I dive in!

PS- I originally went from PS Album 2.0 to PSE 4.0 because the Adjust Date feature in 2.0 wouldn't work.  Then I discovered it was my ZoneAlarm installation causing the problem.  I now run Norton Internet Security 2009 with no apparent Adobe conflicts.
