    Golive Conversion WITHOUT Golive Software

    RofBeomax
Our previous web producer used GoLive and doesn't want to continue support now that GoLive is going away. (He's a stunning artist - and is worried he's spending too much time on mechanics vice art). He's given us all his source files but isn't interested messing with the GL2DW converter.

Should we start from scratch? There appears to be no add on tool for DW and the GoLive free demo is also now a thing of the past.

Ask him to publish the site to some subfolder on the domain, and to select
the option to strip out the csactions when publishing.

In DW define your site to connect to this subfolder as root. GET all the
files. You should be pretty OK at that point.

If you have the remote site information, you could download everything
into Dreamweaver and go from there.

There shouldn't be any reason to start from scratch - you can use the
GL2DW tool or you can do it by hand (a bit more timely). Either way,
there will be some required hand-fixing involved. Of course, it really
depends on the site. Do you have a link to the current site?

On the resource cd under Goodies > DW, there is a basic tutorial on importing a GL site into DW. I don't know how thorough it is since I'm never had the need but it may be worth a look.

It depends on the site and the quality of the existing code... consider
finding another web developer to work with instead of your previous artist,
and then let *them* worry about converting from GoLive....

                HTH,

                Pete.

                  Thanks for the several hints.

The previous developer has given us all his files (and we have password access to the website too).

He won't strip out files but if I don't need GoLive to strip them I can do it.

Thanks again - and re 'Goodies' the only item I found there required GoLive to run the tool. But I'll look again just in case.

                    He won't? That's astonishing.

                    It's a tedious job manually.
