Windows 7 has built in troubleshooting tools to find the problem. Instead of going into details here is a web page to help you out.

Here is a good windows 7 site:

"Nvidia's latest driver" offers a clue -- many problem reports (see also Bridge Windows forum.) While others report crashes, your problem may be related. Solution seems to be to roll back to earlier Nvidia driver. See http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=152021

5. Re: Printer driver issues printing in CS3 and Windows 7
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 2, 2010 7:51 AM (in response to Rootie112)I saw a similar event when Win7 64 running CS4 was bringing back the monitor after several hours inactivity. This time it was the video card showing the same procedure, with a quick screen stating that the nVidia kernel was not responding but has recovered. This is an RTM version not the beta. When we were using the beta versions at work, the same problem occurred and in some cases, it would occur while the system was running and displaying an image.
The common denominator between my box and the ones we used in testing was the nVidia card, in all cases a 7 series card. So I am not surprised to see it here but I am disappointed. The fix was to not install the nVidia driver but allow the MS generic instead.
I did run the Troubleshoot in Control panel and found no entries anywhere about this event. I did find a whole series of errors on totally unrelated events for which I hadn't any indication of failures (AFAIK! Maybe I am blind!).
Anyway, I am trying to run systematically through installations of Win7 64 with both CS3 and CS4, as well as Win7 32 with CS3. Interesting stuff going on but too early to make any reports except to say no installation problems whatsoever other than Win7 64 didn't like installing CS4 directly from a thumb, while Win7 32 (the 7100RC) didn't flinch.
That troubleshoot in CP is pretty comprehensive, so far as any front panel access is concerned.

Thanks to all who have responded.
I checked my Event Viewer -- no entries. So I'm guessing it's my video card. I'll roll back to an earlier version and see what happens and report back. I'll also try the Win 7 troubleshooting link.
Happy New Year to all.

bentleyphotographics Jan 7, 2010 3:00 AM (in response to Rootie112)I had the same problem and on Zeno Bokor's advice I installed the oldest Nividia driver I could find on the Nvidia site. This appears to have fixed the problem. On reading some of the other forums ( including Nividia's ) it appears that there are problems with driver 195.62.
