    Where to find Genuine Fractals 3.5 for Mac anymore?

      HI,

       

      I'm a freelance illustrator working a lot with Photoshop CS.... running OSX 3.9.

       

      I'm wondering where previous versions of Genuine Fractals 3.5 might be found?

      I looked around the GF home page and couldn't find any links.

       

      Where would one go to find such a thing?

       

      I don't need to update the rest of my computer system, but wish I could get the older version of GF.

          Please be aware of the fact that the site being referred to in the previous post is a pirate torrent site. All of the software (and movies, and books, and music) downloaded from these types of sites is pirated.  Do as you wish, but if you're in any sort of business that relies on the integrity of intellectual property (such as the creation of photography, illustration, music, literature, etc.), you're supporting the very people who want to steal your work. In fact, a book I've written is available for pirated download from the link given in the previous post.

           

          Don't support pirates.

          Protect your own intellectual property rights.

          Respect the rights of others.

            In case anyone stumbles upon this thread and is confused by my earlier reply, it was in response to a post (which has since been removed by the mods) that recommended downloading software from a pirate bit torrent site.

             

            Again, I'll reiterate my earlier comment:

            DON"T SUPPORT PIRATES.

             

            Soapbox speech:

            Downloading from pirates is nothing more or less than a felony; grand larceny; thievery.

            Ask yourself when was the last time you walked into a Best Buy and shoplifted a $500 piece of equipment.

            What? You've never done that?

            Then, why on earth would you do the same thing with software (from a pirate site)? Same thing.

              But I'm still wondering where one would go about finding a legitimate copy of Genuine Fractals 3.5 for Panther?

               

              I'm finding more and more software companies simply abandon the software that will ONLY run on Panther... and leave the only available option to consumers to buy a new $3000 Mac Pro to run the new software.  For instance with browser software, only Camino will reliably run on my computer anymore.  All the rest require a new computer to actually work properly.

               

              Meanwhile, my Powermac (which also cost $3000) is perfectly useful with many years of life left in it.

               

               

              But back to my question... is there anyone who still sells the Genuine Fractals 3.5 for Mac I wonder?

                Try eBay. It's amazing what you can find there.

                 

                BTW John, I love your work. It's so clear and direct.

                We read Mercer Mayer to our kids when they were little, so I'm sure they've drooled and chewed on your illustrations. :-)

                  Genuine Fractals is a great tool but it is not the only game in town.

                   

                  You might also try SmillaEnlarger (freeware).

                   

                  http://sourceforge.net/projects/imageenlarger/

                   

                  It works on Windows/Mac/Linux (but I haven't tried it on 10.3).

                    Rick: Thanks for the compliments about the Mercer Mayer books... they were fun.

                    I'll look around on ebay and craigslist.

                      Thanks for the link to SimiliaEnlarger.

                       

                      It seems to crash every time it opens a file after about 1 second.

                      So I guess it's probably written for the 10.4.x or 10.5.x

                       

                      But I'll keep looking for other programs...
