Understanding the index-property of PageItems in InDesign CS4

    PeterPow Level 1

      Hi all,

I need some help to understand the index property of PageItems. The documentation tells:

"The index of the PageItem within its containing object."

So for me this means that if a page contains 2 page items the first one has the index value "0" and the second one has the index value "1" (of course if the page is the parent element of this items), but this is not the case. I was not able to figure out how this concept works and hope to get some help here. The only thing i noticed is that the index changes if page items are overlapping each other, but only if they are of the same type (Textframe or Rectangle or...).

Maybe someone is able to explain this behavior to me, thanks in advance!
